Breast augmentation

SHORT ANSWER

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases breast size or improves breast shape, usually with implants and sometimes with fat transfer. The approach, implant type and size are chosen after an individual assessment. Recovery, scarring and the possible need for later revision surgery are part of the planning.

How is breast augmentation done?

It is usually performed under general anaesthetic. The surgeon makes an incision, commonly under the breast, around the nipple or in the armpit, and places an implant either behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle. Implants are filled with silicone gel or saline. Fat transfer is a different technique that uses a person’s own fat and usually gives a smaller change in size.

What affects the choice of implant?

Body frame, existing breast tissue, skin quality and personal goals all play a part. Surgeons discuss implant shape, projection, size and position, and often use sizers during the consultation.

What is recovery like?

Soreness, swelling and tightness are common in the first weeks. Many surgeons advise a support bra and limits on heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for several weeks. The surgeon’s aftercare instructions set the individual timeline.

Riskler nelerdir?

Risks include infection, bleeding, changes in nipple sensation, scarring, implant displacement and capsular contracture. Implants are not lifetime devices, so further surgery may be needed in future.

Breast augmentation in Turkey and Istanbul

Many people consider travelling to Turkey, including Istanbul, for breast augmentation. The medical considerations are the same wherever surgery takes place.

Questions worth asking before having breast augmentation in Istanbul or elsewhere in Turkey:

  • Which implant brand, model and size will be used, and will I receive an implant record?
  • How many days should I stay in Istanbul before flying home?
  • How will follow-up be arranged once I am back home?
  • Are my operation notes available to share with my doctor at home?
