Breast reduction

SHORT ANSWER

Breast reduction surgery removes breast tissue, fat and skin to make the breasts smaller and lighter. It is chosen for appearance, for physical symptoms such as back, neck and shoulder discomfort, or both. It leaves scars and can affect nipple sensation and, in some cases, the ability to breastfeed.

How is breast reduction done?

Under general anaesthetic the surgeon removes tissue and skin and reshapes the remaining breast, moving the nipple to a higher position. Scars usually run around the nipple, down the front of the breast and along the breast crease.

Who is it for?

People consider it when breast size causes physical discomfort, skin irritation or difficulty with exercise, and also for appearance. A surgeon assesses health, breast anatomy and expectations at consultation.

What is recovery like?

Swelling, bruising and soreness are common for the first weeks. A support bra is worn as advised and heavy lifting is avoided. Final shape settles over several months.

Riskler nelerdir?

Risks include infection, bleeding, scarring, changes in nipple sensation, difficulty breastfeeding and uneven breast size or shape.

Breast reduction in Turkey and Istanbul

Some people travel to Turkey, including Istanbul, for breast reduction. Planning aftercare before travelling matters, because wound checks and support garments are part of recovery.

Questions worth asking before having breast reduction in Istanbul or elsewhere in Turkey:

  • How much tissue is planned to be removed, and how will the nipple be supported?
  • Will breastfeeding be affected?
  • How long should I stay in Istanbul after the operation?
  • How will follow-up be handled when I return home?

When to consult a doctor

Contact your surgeon or seek medical advice promptly if you develop a fever, spreading redness, a wound that opens or sudden one-sided swelling.
